The idea of the work is to use art to reflect our society. The installation was designed to provide viewers with sound and visual experience which could increase viewers' awareness of noise pollution. Noise pollution is one of our city's worst problem, but people still lack the awareness. Through the experience from the installation, viewers could see how noise destroy the image of them in the screen, therefore, they could understand how the noise affect them in their daily lives. If the experience could increase people's awareness of noise, thus, it could be a benefit for our society.
Noise samples was recorded from several different locations of our city, which represents different environments of our lives. Two separate systems was used to handle sound and visual. When a viewer walks into the installation, he will trigger the sound system to play one of the noise samples and send signal to visual system to trigger the video effect to affect the live image of the viewer. Depending on the movement of the viewer, the installation changes the noise sample. And a delay function was used to prevent the noise changes too often. Once viewer left the installation, the video will be just the normal live feed image.
