Transparency
"The word perspective comes from the Latin word for 'seeing through', and that what you as a viewer were supposed to do (Bolter & Gromalo, 2003)."
Perspective is one of the element that artists are using in their artworks. I think the reason is artists want viewers to see through the artworks to the objects are represented by the artworks. In which case, the artworks like windows which bring viewers the objects outside the windows, then the artworks themselves became transparent, or disappeared, what in front of viewers are only the objects.
When a reader is reading a book, he is focusing on the meaning of the words in the book, then the typeface of the words become transparent, as the reader is not supposed to appreciate the typeface but the meaning. When a user is using a computer, he is focusing on the informations on the screen, then the graphical user interface becomes transparent, as the user is not supposed to appreciate the GUI but the informations. From both examples, the typeface and the GUI are the bridge between the viewers and the artwork, but in most of the case, they are not be noticed, they become transparent. Therefore, how could viewers realize what's connecting themselves and the artwork?
Live video feed is definitely a perspective, but when I add mirror effects or symmetry effects to the video, the perspective is broken. Viewers will be focusing on the effected video itself, but not see through the video. In this situation, the connection between the viewers and artwork is the video. In other words, the relationship between the viewers and the artwork is the video, yet, the relationship between the physical and digital world is the video. When the viewers are getting the experience from the video, they are getting the experience about the relationship between the physical and digital world.
